Jingle
Bell
Fun Run
Be
there with Bells on!!!
The
popular Jingle Bell
Fun Run/Walk will take place on Saturday December 5th at 11.00am in
Paisley town centre.
Imagine
the sounds of hundreds of bells as the people of Paisley run and walk
in the ‘Jingle Bell
Run’ . Across the town this sound will
be heard as people tie jingle bells to their shoelaces, don festive
costumes and join neighbours and friends in this fun event.
This
years event promises to be bigger & better than last year, with a
DJ spinning some Christmas sounds, mass warm up before the event, and a
chance to meet jog Scottie, the jogscotland
mascot.
Why not wear something Christmassy and enter the costume contest. We
will give you some jingling bells to tie on to your shoelaces and a
medal and goody bag to all finishers.
The
run/walk is approximately 2 miles, starting and finishing outside Paisley Town Hall. Entertainment starts
at 10.15am. There will be a fun warm up at 10.30 am and your chance to meet jog Scotty, before Provost Lawson
officially starts the race.
Runners
are being encouraged to raise funds for Accord Hospice who will be
hosting their Christmas Fayre in the town
hall at the same time. All runners wearing their finishers
medal will receive a tea/coffee and cake at the Christmas Fayre.
You
can pick up an entry form from The Accord Hospice shops, Renfrewshire
Leisure venues or by calling call jogging buddies on 0141 847 1357 /
01505 810936
There
will be medals and a goody bag for all finishers and lots of spot
prizes up for grabs.
We
are still looking for volunteers so if you can spare a couple of hours
give us a call!
Come
jingle with us and capture the best of the holiday season.
Angela
Paterson wins the Award for Achiever of 2009

Angela
Paterson’s world fell apart in May 2005 when she was diagnosed
with life-threatening
breast cancer at the age of just 37. Her doctors discovered two lumps
and the devastating
news for Angela was that both were malignant. What added to
Angela’s fears was the
memory of her beloved mother Sadie, who died from the same disease when
she was
only 45. She thought about her loved ones and how they would cope if
she wasn’t
around. Her daughter was only 2 years old. Angela opted for a double
mastectomy in
the hope of preventing further spread of the cancer. She was warned
that she faced a long,
rocky road to recovery and, looking back, that’s exactly what she
encountered. She had
heard of the importance of keeping fit and exercise in cancer recovery,
so she decided to
take up jogging with jogscotland . In between intense chemotherapy sessions which
lasted 10months, and then further radiotherapy, Angela worked hard at
her jogging
whenever she could. She never complained and was always positive about
the outlook.
Her 10 months of treatment took its toll as she lost her hair and
eyebrows, constantly had
mouth ulcers and often felt dreadful.
Angela
had to have further operations and treatment when the cancer spread to
her
ovaries and this year she had reconstructive surgery. The actual
reconstruction operation
at the Royal Alexandra Hospital
in Paisley lasted 15 hours. She says
it was draining, but
she was soon back jogging at Renfrew and set herself the goal of
running her first half
marathon.
She
achieved her goal and completed the Great Scottish Run half marathon in
a time of 2
hours 19 minutes.
Angela
will tell you that her cancer is now in remission and while there are
never any
guarantees, she has learn to appreciate what she has, and she is living
life to the full with
her policeman husband and their six year old daughter.
